Appeal for release of 2018 entitlements to wheat farmers

The head of the Beqaa Farmers’ Gathering, Ibrahim Tarshishi, urged yesterday the ministers of economy and finance to give due attention to wheat farmers who, to date, have yet to receive their dues from the 2018 purchases, noting that the 2019 supplies are almost out. While 70 wheat growers received reimbursements from the State, yet there are hundreds awaiting their compensations, Tarshishi grieved. He called on the government to stop manipulation and support farmers, warning to escalate protest action and stage sit-ins in front of the concerned ministries if farmers did not receive their financial dues. This injustice towards farmers in the country is unprecedented. (Al Mustaqbal, May 30, 2019)
