L'Oreal-UNESCO honors six Arab women researchers

The 6th edition of L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Levant, honored 6 talented young Arab women scientists in a ceremony held on September 19 at AUB under the patronage of prime minister Saad Hariri. The laureates are: Dr. Laura Joy Bulos (Lebanon) for her contribution in mental health, neurology and artificial intelligence; Tamara Salum (Lebanon) for her research on leishmania pathogenomics and genome evolution to propose new therapeutic targets; Dr. Nidaa Anwar Ababneh (Jordan), research on the application and modification of new stem cell production; Dr. Nuf Mahmud (Jordan) on innovative nano technologies to treat injuries and skin infections caused by diabetes; Dr. Sawsan Abu Sharkh, (Palestine) for her research on the design and release of cancer treatment drugs using different types of nanocarriers, and Inas Khafaji (Iraq) for research based on the development of treatment targeting tumors to improve the quality of life. Recalling, that over the past 21 years, the L’Oreal UNESCO for Women in Science program has spotlighted 107 female scientists and reinforced efforts of more than 3100 young female holders of PhD and postdoctoral students by providing research grants annually in around 117 countries.
