Meeting with the 4 women ministers on partnership to promote economic and social vision

25-7-2019

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) yesterday organized a dialogue table hosting the four women ministers, Raya Hassan (interior), Nada Boustani (energy and water), May Chidiac (administrative development) and Violette Safadi (economic empowerment of women and youth). Present at the meeting entitled, ‘Women’s partnership in developing the economic and social vision in Lebanon’, was head of ECOSOC, Charles Arbid, who stressed the role of women in planning policies after having sustained their presence in the social, political and economic arenas. Hassan on her part, pledged to work to increase the rate of women’s representation quota in the legislature and the cabinet, as well as in municipal councils to better serve their country and society. Similarly, Chidiac addressed Lebanese women telling them not to back out under any pressure or intimidation attempts. “You make your own future. Prove yourselves within your political parties, for no one will struggle for your rights if you did stand up for them,” she stated. Safadi, in her turn, said she will work on a legal uprising to help women become more productive. Finally, Boustani pointed out that the patriarchal society should not discourage the Lebanese woman from playing her role, but rather serve an incentive for her to prove her capacities, notwithstanding the pressures of work and family.
