22-09-2012

The National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW) organized a day-long workshop to discuss the national strategy for Lebanese women developed by the Commission and recently approved by the government. The strategy has as one of its key objectives to mainstream gender in government organizations through activating the role of gender focal points located in various ministries and public institutions.
During the workshop, the discussions revolved around the concept of gender and how it is linked to social discrimination based on sect, religion, gender and color. Furthermore, the practical needs of women in all work sectors and the strategies of the national strategy were reviewed and discussed.
There was a general agreement among the participants on the importance of implementation of all international treaties, conventions and human rights declarations signed by the Government of Lebanon. This particularly requires the lifting of all reservations regarding the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
