VAW: Hard labor for attempted rapist of and physical attack in Tyre

29-5-2019

The Criminal Court of Mount Lebanon headed by Judge Elie Hilou and the membership of Elias Mkheiber and Lamis Kazma, ruled yesterday on the rape case of actress Ann Marie Salameh. The convict, Mohamad Baba, Syrian, has been sentenced to three years and a half of hard labor and deportation from Lebanon after he completes his prison term. He was also fined with USD 10,000 in damages. Recalling, that Baba, who served as a janitor in the building where Salameh lives, entered her house in October 2017 in an attempt to rape her. This prompted the actress to file a complaint against him at Hbeish Police Station in Beirut and he was subsequently arrested by security forces. Meanwhile, security sources close to Mustaqbal Web portal said yesterday that a Syrian national attacked a house in Zira’a neighborhood east of Tyre and beat the woman owner of the house alleging he was a member in the Special Forces. A security unit surrounded the place, seized the suspect and referred him to the competent judiciary in the area. (Al Mustaqbal, May 29, 2019)
