100 employees laid-off in one single day because of economic reasons

In its follow-up of the phenomenon of arbitrary work termination Lebanese laborers, the labor ministry disclosed in a statement yesterday that 4 local companies have laid-off some 100 of their employees in just one day. The labor ministry, the statement said, has received 4 petitions of dismissal and arbitrary terminations of job contracts in 4 institutions as follows: MSC shipping company (arbitrary dismissal, 3 employees); Isaco Industrial Systems (arbitrary dismissal, 3 employees) and terminations of contracts for some 82 employees on pretext of economic malaise, and finally, Zreik for Trading and Contracting (12 employees). The Labor and Professional Relations Department at the ministry has as such cautioned above companies to exercise good judgment before taking any final decision, the statement concluded.
