Gender rights to women Palestinian refugees program held by Palestinian organization for Human Rights (Hoqouq) ended by reciting the problems that women Palestinian refugees in Lebanon face, like the violations to their civil, economic and social rights in addition to different kinds of violence and prejudice based on gender and suggestions to solutions for these problems.

Gender discrimination, between legislation and practice

 A Memorandum of Cooperation between the "National Commission for Women" and the University of St. Joseph, has been signed, addressing a project for training women on management tools to allow the most ambitious to achieve their projects and participate fully in the economic sector in the country. In the end, the project will allow young women's access health issues to enjoy the best fitness and improve their quality of life and the lives of generations to come.

The election of Lebanese Nahla Haidar in New York CEDAW

The Lebanese candidate, Ms. Nahla Haidar, was elected as a member in the Committee of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, during the seventeenth Meeting of States Parties to the Convention which was held at UN headquarters in New York the day before yesterday.

A civil state to save women

The Euro-Mediterranean Network for Human Rights organized a workshop yesterday entitled "The European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan between the EU and Lebanon: the challenges and opportunities to support women's rights in Lebanon and achieving gender equality." The discussion focused on the sectarian and political system that limits the access to decision-making positions for women.  The workshop calls for activating the role of the civil state for women in Lebanon.

Women and domestic violence: beyond the Subcommittee

The Subcommittee in charge of examining the proposed law to protect women against domestic violence concluded its discussions yesterday.  The next meetings will be to prepare the report on the debates, amendments, and justifications.  The report will be submitted to the joint committees, where the National Alliance for Legislation to Protect Women from Domestic Violence will complete its work with their parliamentary blocs.

When women talk

When Women Talk
Funded by the Norwegian Embassy, the Partnership Center for Development and Democracy launched the When women talk/ CEDAW project aiming for a better understanding of CEDAW’s conditions and articles.
The Center is organizing a workshop on CEDAW on the 29th and the 30th of June in which 10 NGO partners from the South Lebanon will participate.

"White Earth" foundation graduated 86 students

The White Earth Foundation held a graduation ceremony last Friday for the participants of a training course at developing the skills in English, handicrafts, and computers.  The participants are mainly from Jezzine and the surrounding areas. The courses are a part of an investment in human capacity development and support.
