A Lebanese prep committee on domestic work in order to strengthen the rights of migrant women domestic workers

26-11-2013

Within the framework of the second phase of the project aiming at strengthening the rights of migrant domestic workers, a project which is implemented by the ILO and funded by the EU and targets migrant women domestic workers from Francophone Africa, a meeting was held yesterday at the premises of the National Federation of Trade Unions of Workers and Employees in Lebanon in order to develop a comprehensive work plan of action.  The work plan which is being prepared by a special committee seeks to introduce MWDW to their rights and responsibilities and to ways to defend their rights.  The preparatory meeting was attended by representatives of the ILO and civil society organisations and the National Federation of Trade Unions of Workers and Employees in Lebanon in addition to trade union leaders from Asia. At the end of the meeting, the prep committee agreed on a number of recommendations namely the design of a detailed timetable of activities in preparation for the launching of the second phase of the project.
