Capacity building workshops for social workers || Articles || Newspapers (Arabic)

The Ministry of Social Affairs and the Higher Council of Childhood in collaboration with "Dar Al-Amal" and "Aman" association exert many effort to train social workers fighting sexual violence against Children especially on the field follow-up level. These efforts focus on training social workers and psychological specialists on skills required to identify the indicators of sexual violence against children. Through the approach of psycho-social interventions provided by experts, these trainings also work on how to deal with victims, follow-up and referral to the relevant authorities.

The Campaign of "Reciprocity” achieved its objectives || Articlels || Newspapers (Arabic)

"We are not minors, we are aware and mature people and we will put an end to the policies humiliating us and disgracing our rights."
With this title the organizers ended their "reciprocity" campaign during a press conference expressing their success in pushing the government to respond to their demands by changing the procedures adopted in the embassies. It should be noted though, that the campaign will continue to defend the Lebanese citizens’ "dignity" and the media will be ready to broadcast any complaint related to the topic.

The death of a woman and her baby “organizes” the doctors union || Articles || NEwspapers (Arabic)

A deceased woman who had been deprived of her maternal health rights has influenced for a doctor’s union to change their relationship with their patients and the media.  The union took several measures to protect the patients in regulating prescriptions, medical consultations, and forming a committee to correct their relationship with the media.

EU project to improve women’s prison conditions || Articles || Newspapers

A project to promote human rights policy in Lebanese women’s prisons funded by the European Union will be implemented in four prisons in Baabda, Tripoli, Zahle and Barbar al-Khzen, and Beirut.  The project aims to improve human rights and living conditions of women detainees through enhancing legal and social support. Founded in 1976, the Afel Association provides care for children during wartime.  The children usually suffer from all forms of abuse.  Therapy is given to each child to help break the silence in sexual abuse cases.

CEO of Afel, Amal Farhat and other social experts spoke about certain cases that the association focuses care of as well as the relationship between Afel, other civil society organizations, and the Ministry of Social Affairs.  Farhat also indicated the importance of parental roles in protecting their children by providing healthy and informative sex education.

Salam Shreim, President of the Juvenile Protection Unit within the Ministry of Social Affairs, spoke about the Ministry’s plan in assigning professionals in schools and services’ centers to fight sexual harassments and protect children.

In the heart of Bent Jbeil, a quaint shop is located.  Fifteen local women established a cooperative for agro-alimentary production.  The shop encourages housewives to sell their products in the store.  
The shop has seen much success in the participation of women as it gives the women the opportunity to partake in economic development of their community.

Draft law for protecting women from violence || Articles || Newspapers (Arabic)

In spite of the continuous efforts by civil society and women associations movements to protect women against violence, some political and religious parties are preventing these efforts to stop the law draft from passing.  The religious groups believe that the law will violate families and believe that martial rape is one of the husband’s many rights to his wife.

The United Women’s Committee of the North and Sheik Malek Al Shaar, the Mufti of Tripoli, met to discuss the upheavals between Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen condemning the assaults on citizen’s private properties.  They fear the consequences of the dangerous security situation on the economic and social states.
They hope that the media will report the situation objectively and put all political and sectarian difference aside.
